Fire marshal’s absence touches off furor at meeting on sprinklers

Listen to CBS Chicago’s radio report on what happened at a meeting held to discuss the possible implementation of Life Safety Code changes that would mandate fire sprinklers in high rise buildings and new residential construction.

Those attending the forum wanted to give Illinois Fire Marshal Larry Matkaitis their opinion on the change, which would have to be approved by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. When a representative of the office came instead, the mood turned ugly.
